This reusable guide covers 1894-1917 and such key People as Peter, Ivan, Catherine, Nicholas II, Rasputin, Vladimir Lenin. It is to be used in conjunction with the Romanov Fabergé egg (EDU 015). A Fabergé egg is one of 56 jeweled Easter eggs made by Peter Carl Fabergé between 1884 and 1917. The eggs are among the masterpieces of the jeweler’s art. His primary source of inspiration came from historical art styles that he found during his travels. Fabergé used precious gemstones and metals such as silver, gold, copper, nickel, and palladium. This replica is the Rosebud Egg made for the Empress Alexandra. When Czar Alexander III died in1894, Nicholas II came to the throne. Czar Nicholas II began his reign by marrying Alexandra, granddaughter of England’s Queen Victoria. An Easter egg had to be made urgently for the new Empress. Fabergé created the Rosebud Egg to represent the new couple’s love. In 1917, amidst the chaos of the October Revolution, Fabergé fled Russia.
